What is broadband?

Broadband is the term for any kind of fast Internet connection. The chances are that you already have an Internet connection and want to upgrade, or you're setting up an Internet connection at home for the first time.

If you already have an Internet connection, you probably connect with dial-up connection or a modem that plugs into your telephone line, and probably no longer satisfied with the performance it offers.

If you're setting up for the first time, it makes sense to go for Broadband as the starter packages are usually much better value than the dial-up.

How does broadband differ?

A broadband connection is not much different from dial-up. The equipment is similar and in many cases the connection is still made through your phone line.

The difference is that you'll have a much faster, 24 hours a day Internet connection. Normally a flat monthly fee, is paid regardless of use.

How much faster is it?

You'll be able to do things that just weren't practical with a dial-up connection. Such as, watch video clips and listen to music in real time, including live broadcasts, Download music, software, film trailers and play games. online.

Is it difficult to install?

No! Your chosen ISP will supply you with your Broadband connection. If you already have one shop around as other companies might offer you a better deal. If you are a new customer, most ISPs will arrange a date to connect you and supply you with everything you need to get started. A start up CD is usually included which will set up your computer and some providers send an engineer to set you up.
